EEG Brain Mapping

A thirty-minute EEG recording on the WAVi system that measures your brain’s actual coherence and frequency, the two metrics that describe how well different regions of the brain are communicating and how efficiently they are functioning. Nothing invasive, and objective data instead of a guess.

What it helps with

What to expect

A technician fits a gel-free EEG brain mapping headset on a young man before his scan

About 45 minutes in the room

The scan itself is 30 minutes. The rest is fitting the cap and getting clean contact. A cap fitted with sensors rests on your head. No gel, no needles, and no discomfort during the scan.

A seated, guided scan

You’ll be seated comfortably and asked to follow simple visual and auditory prompts while the system records your brain activity.

Results at a follow-up

Your map is reviewed by your provider, then walked through with you in plain language.

What the results show

The scan produces a detailed map of brain wave form activity across five bands: Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta, and High Beta. Research has linked patterns in this activity to conditions including ADHD, anxiety, chronic pain, depression, and the after-effects of concussion. Your physician reviews the full results with you and builds a treatment plan targeted at what the data shows.

What your report looks like

Clear numbers and a color map of your brain activity.

These are sample pages with example data, so you can see what you take home. Your report shows your own scores next to the target range for each measure, and we walk through every page with you at your follow-up visit. The full report runs more than 10 pages, and the heat maps show your Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta and High Beta wave activity. Because it measures your brain directly, it is not something you can study for or answer your way around.

Sample EEG brain map report showing brain reaction voltage, brain reaction time, physical reaction time and a color voltage map of the head

Key metrics and brain map

Brain reaction voltage, brain reaction time and physical reaction time, plus a heat map that shows where activity is strong or low.

Sample EEG report page showing theta/beta ratio, frontal alpha balance and trail making test results compared with target ranges

Attention and processing

Focus and frontal balance scores, plus timed trail making tests that measure how quickly you process and switch between tasks.

Sample quantitative EEG summary page with Z-scored head maps of absolute power, relative power, asymmetry, coherence and phase lag across Delta, Theta, Alpha, Beta and High Beta

Detailed brain wave maps

A deeper look at the same kind of scan. Each brain wave band is compared with a reference database, and the colors show where activity runs higher or lower than expected.

Second sample quantitative EEG summary page with Z-scored head maps showing a different pattern of brain wave activity

Every brain is different

A second sample shows how much these patterns vary from person to person. That is why your care plan is built from your own scan, not a template.

Sample report with example data. Not a real patient.

Frequently asked questions

Is an EEG brain map covered by insurance?

Yes. We accept all major insurance, VA, Tricare and Medicare, and we verify your benefits before you’re scheduled. Cash pay is also welcome.

How long does the appointment take?

About 45 minutes total. The scan itself is 30 minutes, the rest is fitting the cap and getting clean contact.

Is it painful or invasive?

No. A cap with sensors rests on your head. No gel, no needles, and nothing enters your body.

When do I get my results?

At a follow-up visit, where your provider walks you through your map in plain language and builds a treatment plan from what it shows.

From a referring physician

“My patients rave about how they feel with this therapy. For many patients with anxiety, ADHD, pain and other conditions, I found it very helpful to objectively assess EEG abnormalities and communication between different areas of the brain. I also felt relieved that I was able to order a treatment that did not require medication. They provide both diagnostic and therapeutic services for my patients. I feel [the team] provides a quality service that I have not been able to find anywhere else.”
